Updates on my Substack approach

I write because I love it. Since I was a little girl writing poems about my grandparents’ dog Frisky, I have written as a way to express my love and to better understand my world. I want to keep writing for me.

And I also want to keep writing for you – because I really believe that in this time of tech overlords and fear of empathy and corporations having more rights than humans or natural ecosystems, we need to be inspired and encouraged to return our attention, love, and awareness to the living, animate, intimate earth and its diverse beings. I might even say this is the necessary thing that might allow us as humans to have a future at all.

So I am passionate. And I want to share that.

But I can’t keep up with a schedule that keeps me in front of my computer screen to be constantly updating and creating content. I need to live my life to have actual life content to write about.

And over the past couple of years writing on Substack I have found that I don’t want to put a paywall up for my writing. I just want to write and share with as many people as want to read it. So I have put less and less content behind a wall. So I want to just make all of my writing available here and I want to make that clear so my paid subscribers are aware.

It is still really helpful for me if you become a subscriber and, even better, if you are open to a paid subscription. This allows me just a little more breathing room to be able to take time to write and edit and frankly, get out from behind my desk so that I have things to write about. So please know that I greatly appreciate those of you who generously offer money each month to support my offerings.

So if it is a comfortable thing to do, please do keep subscribing. It nourishes me in many ways.

AI POLICY

I am opposed to AI. I do not feel good about where it seems to be taking us and I am not excited about reading or seeing art created by a hive mind computer rather than a human being. I understand it can be helpful for research or references, with limitations and reservations. But I will not be using AI to write for me.

Again, I write because I actually enjoy writing. I teach journaling and creative writing classes for goodness sake. Aren’t we supposed to want to do this to develop a skill and an art?

I want to write for self expression not for content.

That said, I also am not interested in feeding my writing into AI to prove that I haven’t used AI, thus giving my content and voice to the AI so that it becomes more familiar with my style making it more likely to flag it as matched to AI. Ugh, it is all so maddening. That said I will not be opening my work to the AI check function. If you doing enjoy my writing because you think it is AI, or for any other reason, don’t read it. It is ok.
